Mistakes

Are these mistakes KILLING your business?

You’ve probably seen it happen…

Someone enters your marketplace and starts out doing pretty well…

Next thing you know, they’re EVERYWHERE.

Maybe it’s a competitor, maybe it was a friend.

Regardless, I can tell you one thing for sure:

It was not luck.

Going from “nobody” to “authority” online is a matter of three things:

1. Your Marketing

2. Your Systems

3. Your Team

Problem is… nothing will destroy your potential faster than making these common mistakes in the key areas:

Marketing Mistake #1: Selling features, not benefits

Most entrepreneurs try to jam the features of their products and services down our throats.

The problem?

Nobody cares about features.

They only care about what it does for them.

The benefits.

The only way to successfully market your products and services is to sell the BENEFITS.

Example:

Selling the benefits is exactly how the iPod made traditional mp3’s irrelevant with 5 simple words:

“1000 songs in your pocket.”

All of the other mp3 players on the market would boast about how many gigabytes of storage they had.

How much it weighed.

The dimensions.

Ugh. BORING.

Apple came on the scene with benefit-oriented campaigns and CRUSHED the competition.

The good news?

This benefits-driven approach can be applied to absolutely any service or product being sold on the market today.

Now you might be thinking…

“Sounds great John…but I’m a business owner and I don’t have time to come up with ad campaigns.

Which brings us to the next mistake.

Systems Mistake #2: Wearing Too Many Hats

“I can’t afford to hire anyone…”

“If I don’t do it, nobody else will do it as well as me.”

So you do the books, run ads, manage outsourcers, fulfill client requests, and so on.

This means you’re stretched too thin and you’re constantly running from one fire to the next.

But is all of that grinding it out paying off in freedom?

I’m betting it’s not.

Here’s why:

Wearing too many hats goes against the universal 80/20 principle.

The law proves that your top 20%  activities yields 80% of your results.

So if you’re filling your days with the bottom 80% business activities, your results are limited.

You won’t move the needle in your business.

And your business will stay stagnant.

Instead of trying to do it all, focus on the ONE thing that will have the biggest impact on your day.

Do it first thing and let yourself BE SATISFIED once you accomplish it.

Once you free your mind from the rest, you’ll have created the forward momentum you need to get your most important sh*t done.

Remember: it all starts with ONE “lever”

… but sometimes finding that one lever is HARD.

Which brings us to:

Mistake #3. Trying to Go it Alone

Anyone who has ever achieved extraordinary results has had help.

Usually in the form of a coach or mentor.

Think about it for a second.

Michael Jordan had a coach.

Bill Clinton had a coach.

Millionaire CEO and founders like Damond John have coaches.

Your favorite movie star has probably had a coach.

You are no exception.

Nothing will help you rise to the top of your field faster than modeling the mindset & behavior of someone who has already achieved what you want.

Just think about every epic or heroic movie you’ve ever seen:

Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or Star Wars…

In each of these stories, the hero has a mentor, someone to guide them, provide wisdom and advise them on what to do next.

It’s not a coincidence that a mentor plays such an important part of the Hero’s Journey in every one of these stories.

So let me ask you a question:

Who is helping you on YOUR advertising journey?

Do you have someone to help you take you from where you are to where you want to be in your business?
